INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHIC LIGHTING
4 week WORKSHOP (6pm-8.30pm)
David Game College: 69 Notting Hill Gate
London W11
£250
Located at David Game College, this four week evening course shows a full range of lighting techniques for photography, including camera flash, speedligh flash, studio flash, tungsten and household lights and the best use of natural light.
A professional photographer will explain all aspects of natural light, including colour balance, contrast and brightness, dawn, dusk and night shoots, and a choice of accessories for dealing with any lighting situation.
Students are shown how best to use their own in-camera or separate flash, as well as studio flash and tungsten lights, together with accessories and materials including brollies, soft boxes, snoots, reflectors and lead foil. The teacher will give a list of low budget options for setting up a controlled light mini studio in your home, with a list of materials and products.
Lighting set ups will be demonstrated in every class, and students will do photo sessions every week, including portraits, still life and products, as well as going outside and doing street photography using available ambient light.
Any student with a particular interest will be given time to explore the best lighting options for their subject, and complete instruction will be given in the use of flash and ambient hand held light meters.
NB:
You need to be familiar with the settings and shooting operation of your DSLR camera
in order to keep up with this course, as it concentrates on advanced lighting techniques. If you need some help with learning the basics of how to use your camera, please sign up for either the one-day digital photography course or the 8 week digital workshop. Either of these classes will give you the skills necessary for the lighting course.
